About us
Our History
The Guelph Parks and Recreation Department originally offered a recreational synchronized swimming program for many years through Victor Davis Pool. This allowed many Guelph children to be exposed to the sport. The program was one hour per week and offered progression through the Trillium Levels and a year-end show. In January of 1995, Parks and Recreation turned the program over to a group of parents who wished to see the swimmers have the opportunity to be involved in the sport on a competitive level. Hence the Guelph Synchronized Swim Club was born.
In 2020 the Club started to rebrand to the new name “Royal City Artistic Swimming Club”. This was in coordination with World Aquatics (artistic swimming’s international governing body), Canadian Artistic Swimming and Ontario Artistic Swimming’s name change for the sport. After the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, officials felt that “synchronized” didn’t best describe the sport and the term artistic would draw upon parallels to artistic gymnastics and artistic skating. The change in name was also supported as athletes are also judged based on their artistic impression of their routine.
